Building on a Solid Foundation
46“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
I can immediately think of things I have done or thought recently that were not following what Jesus has taught. I can also think of things I have done or thought recently that followed Jesus teaching. What does that mean to me?
I need to do much better and I am going in the right direction sometimes. What else?
If I think about these actions in every case, what Jesus taught has held true. When the weather in life is good, my decisions didn’t seem to matter that much. But when the storms hit, everything that wasn’t built on the foundation of Jesus was damaged or fell apart. It was a ruin.
Lord, help me to see now what I’m doing, when the weather is good, and correct my course to boldly go wherever you desire. Holy Spirit give me the courage to see the truth, and do something about it.
