Beginner's Online Bible Study: Matthew 10:9-15 Depend on God

Thomas Less, February 21, 2011
9“Don’t take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins.10Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.

11“Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town.12When you enter the home, give it your blessing.13If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing.14If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave.15I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day.
“Don’t prepare yourself for this journey.”  That is what I hear Jesus saying when I read this.  When Jesus spoke these words the necessities of life were not easy to come by.  People starved and were naked…times were harsh.  Yet this is what Jesus is saying to me now.

I am not like that.  I like to have a plan.  When I go to Disney World I usually know what park I’m going to on what day, and what order I am going to ride what rides on and exactly which restaurant I will each lunch at.  I pack a backpack and I wear the right clothes.  I have a plan.

But in my spiritual journey and when I’m doing God’s work, I need to just go.  Just Do It.  I am to depend on God to provide.  I am to accept the help He sends my way.  I am to give blessing to people I hardly know and realize I will be wrong about them sometimes.  I am not to sit and wait till I’ve got it all figured out – and neither are you.  God has a different plan than you and I do anyway.

Lord, help me to be willing to go into the unknown to do Your will. Help me to love, and give, and serve…and never look for a reward.  Guide me and keep me and use me.  Your will be done.  Beginner’s Online Bible Study *obbs*

How true that God has a different plan than we do!! Don’t try and figure Him out, just trust Him!! He will give us all we need on our journey if we just trust Him. (Sounds easy, doesn’t it??)

I love the picture of Jesus walking that you posted with this Scripture. I need to stop the planning and follow His footsteps with faith…
