Beginner's Online Bible Study: Matthew 12:9-14 Jesus hated for doing good

Thomas Less, March 6, 2011
9Then Jesus went over to their synagogue,10where he noticed a man with a deformed hand. The Pharisees asked Jesus, “Does the law permit a person to work by healing on the Sabbath?” (They were hoping he would say yes, so they could bring charges against him.)
11And he answered, “If you had a sheep that fell into a well on the Sabbath, wouldn’t you work to pull it out? Of course you would.12And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, the law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath.”
13Then he said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored, just like the other one!14Then the Pharisees called a meeting to plot how to kill Jesus.
The Pharisees just could not celebrate the good being done!  Imagine how often they saw miracle after miracle, but they wanted the miracle worker dead.  How could they?  Yet I have done nearly the same thing,  I have known people who were enjoying success after success and I found fault with what they were doing.  I have played the critic.  Why did I want so bad to rain on their parade?  Perhaps their success was making me look mediocre, but  was that a reason not to celebrate success?

Lord, help me to not be the critic.  Help me to not be jealous of another’s success or goodness.  Help me to be the encouraging person.  Give me genuine joy for other people’s blessings.  Make me a cheerleader! Beginner’s Online Bible Study *obbs*

the footnotes in my Bible for Matthew 12:14 “The Pharisees plotted Jesus’ death because they were outraged that he had overruled their authority. Jesus exposed their evil attitudes before the entire crowd in the synagogue. he showed that they were more loyal to their religious system then to God.” also look at Luke 6:11 – ” Jesus enemies were wild with rage. Not only had he read their minds; he also flouted their laws and exposed the hatred in their hearts. it is ironic that their hatred combined with their zeal for the law drove them to plot murder – clearly against the law.”

Let us celebrate the love God has for all people at all times and for his healing power to those who are suffering….
