2He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow;3red ksky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the ksky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!4Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away.
How could they ask for more signs? Jesus had just healed “everyone who came” and he had just fed well over 4,000 people with a couple loaves of bread, and they were asking for a “sign from heaven”. It seems to me the signs Jesus was giving them were brighter than the Las Vegas strip! How blind can someone be?
Well, I don’t know about you, but I can be pretty blind.
We all have a way of sticking our heads in the sand, or perhaps the fable about The Emporer’s New Cloths is more accurate. We know what is going on, we just don’t want to admit it. Where are the “signs” of God in our lives today? Walk outside and look around. The existence of the universe is all the sign you need. Scientist are so afraid to admit there is a God that they construct elaborate theories on very little proof about where the universe came from. They can’t create a single drop of water from absolutely nothing yet they want us to believe the Earth and all its life, and all the stars and planets that surround us came from nothing. Science is good, but if it is your king, your king has no cloths.
Or more importantly, look at the people around you. None of them are perfect, but you can tell who has a deep relationship with Jesus. They still sin and have problems, but in the worst of storms they have a hope and a steadiness. They usually answer anger with kindness. They forgive because they are forgiven.
