Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
Matt 26:14-16 // Mark 14:10-11 // Luke 22:3-6
14Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests15and asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.16From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
This small verse is a HUGE source of faith in the Holy Scriptures. Hundreds of years earlier in Zechariah 11:4-17, God instructs Zechariah the prophet to use being a shepherd as a example for the people. In the story the owners of the sheep value the prophet at 30 pieces of silver. God responds in Zechariah 11:13 with: ” 13And the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—this magnificent sum at which they valued me! So I took the thirty coins and threw them to the potter in the Temple of the Lord.” Later, we will see that Judas, when he is overcome with remorse, throws the money into the temple and the priest used it to buy a potter’s field. The potter’s field then became a burial place for foreigners. We are all foreigners here on earth.
The Bible has literally hundreds of Old Testament verses like this which found fulfillment in Jesus. The continuity and completeness of the Bible, when you know, is so incredible that no open minded person who studies it well could possibly come to any conclusion other than that it was written by someone who both knew and controlled the future. It simply must be the Word of God.
