23Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him.24But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew human nature.25No one needed to tell him what mankind is really like.
So what is mankind really like? What am I really like? And you?
Jesus wouldn’t trust them. By our nature we are self-centered and fickle. Jesus couldn’t trust his mission, or himself to them. He wouldn’t believe their flattery or think that his popularity would last. He knew he could go from great to goat in a minute. He knew these same people would some day put him on the cross.
And it is not just true for them, but it is true for us too. Are we steadfast in our love and faith in Jesus? I know I am not. I can be high as a kite in love with him one day, and then be depressed and afraid (which is the opposite of fiath) the next. I can praise him, and blame him in the same day sometimes.
Lord Jesus, please change me and dwell in me so I am not fickle and unfaithful. Help me to not be blown around by the winds of life but to stay the course and be hopeful and joyful because I know you are God. *obbs*
