18“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s hone and only Son. 19And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.20All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.21But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”
It is very clear. Believe (remember what that word means) and you are not judged. Fail to believe, and you are guilty. And it really is that simple. God is so holy that in his light are not we all clearly sinners? Could any of us stand the scrutiny of God’s light revealing all our life’s sins to the entire universe? No. We all need the holiness and purity that comes from believing in Jesus and his death for us on the cross.
Which is why evil and sin flourish in darkness and die in the light. The last part of this is an invaluable lesson. If you want to end a sin that has gripped your life, drag it into the light. Confess it to other Christians you trust. Sin can’t live with Light. Confess your sin to God, and to your fellow Christians, and the sin will die.
Lord, thank you so much for you holiness and light. Thank-you for giving me the desire to believe and thank-you for covering me with your love so I can live in your light. Open my eyes to my sins and shine your light upon them so each of them will die and I can be a little more pure each and every day. Change me Lord. *obbs*
