1Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. 5There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all.
We are called by God! Just being called by God is amazing. Many times we may wonder what we were put on this earth to do. What is our mission, we ask. This short paragraph describes our calling from God. It may not be the career guidance we are searching for, or the life goal we thought we should have, or the education plan we wanted, but it is far more than that. It is our guide to how to live each moment of every day. It is amazing.
If we fulfilled this calling from God, would our careers plans really matter that much?
What is the higher calling – living as God describes here (humble, gentle, patient, allow for faults, loving, united), or aspiring to some great goal?
Which of these “callings” from God are you working on now? Is it the one God wants you to work on?
