Lord, it is so easy to turn this simple teaching around. How often have I “done back to others what they did to me”? No Lord, help me to do exactly what You are teaching. I need forgiveness, so make me forgiving. I want kindness, so make me kind. And Lord, help me to treat others the way I want them to treat me, even if I know they won’t treat me that way. It is so easy to be kind to those who are kind to me, but make me kind to the person who hurts me the worst or causes me the greatest pain. Then I will be a little more like You.
13“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.14But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.
Can I really accept this verse Lord? Can you mean what you are saying? You must. If my life is going well and things are good and easy, I know I am on the wrong road. I guess then I should rejoice at my trials and problems. Lord, please keep me on the difficult road. Keep me from taking the easy way. And when I stray, bring me back to your path. I will surely be lost without you Lord. Please keep me.
And Lord, not only me, but bring those I love to your difficult and narrow path. Beginner’s Online Bible Study *obbs*
I was reading the following in Key Life from Steve Brown: “…Because they knew the law told them how to live in the best possible way with the most happiness that one could get in this world. the law isn’t the place where God tells us that everything we enjoy is sin and everything we don’t enjoy couldn’t be sin. It is a GIFT telling us where the minefields are….. Paul calls the law of God our tutor/teacher because of the way it always drives us to a God of grace….”
As I read the Bible and hear about the “laws”, i hope to see them more in the light of God’s gifts to me and to follow Jesus with a more joyful spirit….
