14When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever.15But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.
16That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick.17
This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said,
“He took our sicknesses
and removed our diseases.”
Just another simple miracle story. There are so many, I sometimes wonder why they are all in there. But every miracle story screams “Jesus is not just a man!” Jesus made the impossible, an every-day event. It got to the point eventually where miracles from Jesus were taken for granted! Jesus was no normal man on a normal mission. He was COMPLETELY different. He, was God.
Also notice the quote from Isaiah: He took our sicknesses. Is it possible that Jesus didn’t just make the sickness go away, but that He took it upon himself? Think about this a little. The evil of this world came about because of sin. Jesus came to accept the judgement for all humanity’s sins. (I don’t mean that our individual sicknesses are caused by our individual sins at all, that is an entirely different discussion.) Doesn’t it put a different light on Jesus’ healing miracles if you think about it that way?
What do you see in Jesus’ miracles? Have you ever seen a miracle in your life? What do you think about the idea that Jesus didn’t just cast sicknesses aside, but instead “took” them? Beginner’s Online Bible Study *obbs*
Thank you, the picture moved me to tears and the truth you expound upon with regard to our Saviour TAKING our sickness really ministers to me. How beautiful, thank you so much for this.
So often I read Scripture too quickly. I need to learn to slow down and allow His words to become a part of who I am. To take the time to truly study and learn. Thanks for pointing out the word TOOK in the Scripture – that one simple word brings such emotion and a feeling of overwhelming love that Jesus has for each and every one of us. He freed me from many physical and mental “sicknesses” through the years. And to stop and think about the pain and fear that I lived with, and He chose to free me and take them upon himself. To God be the glory! His love is truly awesome!
