8God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
So lets put ourselves in this picture. I have been saved by the free choice of Jesus to die on my cross for me. I didn’t do a single thing to earn this and can take no credit for it whatsoever. I have nothing to be proud of. And then, after saving me, God has made me a masterpiece by recreating me in Jesus Christ. He did all of this when I deserved to go to HELL. Why would God do this?
Finally we get a straight answer to that question. Look at those last few words: “so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago“.
We need to let this sink in a little. This says so much.
First, God had a good plan for us and he had it long ago. We were born to fulfill a destiny and a mission. Our lives are not random wanderings in a desert. We have good things to do and we are a integral part of the grand design of the great God who created the universe!!!!
We are to do good deeds. We are not saved and recreated by our good deeds, we are saved and recreated so we can do good things. To not do these good things is to rebel against the mission God has for us. It is sin. But rejoice, we are new creations capable of doing good things!!!!
Are you passionately fulfilling the mission you were recreated for? If not, why not?
