3. Treat No One Like A God…Unless It Really Is God

Thomas Less, 12/10/201501/07/2017

Stephen_hawking_2008_nasa3Just who do some people treat as if they are God?

  • Scientists – The open-minded seekers and holders of all truth. (heavy sarcasm in every word)
  • Theologians – The open-minded seekers and holders of ultimate truth. (heavy sarcasm in every word)
  • Academians – The open-minded conveyors of all truth. (heavy sarcasm in every word)
  • You and Me! – The open-minded seekers and holders of our own personal relevant truth.  (heavy sarcasm in every word)

I ordered these very carefully.  They are in order of most obvious to least obvious. Or was it least dangerous to most dangerous?  Or was it both?  Yes, that’s it.

OK – I’ll stop it with the sarcasm now.  I promise, I’ll be a nice guy from here on.  Nice but honest.

Smart People Can Be Wrong!

Some of you may recognize this from a scene in “God’s Not Dead” (don’t stop reading now).

Stephen Hawking – The Grand Design : “Because there’s a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing spontaneously. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something instead of nothing; why the universe exists; why we exist. It’s not necessary to invoke God to set the universe in motion”

Stephen Hawking is a genius, often considered the greatest mind now alive on the Earth, so the tendency is to believe that he must be correct. Why? Can we mere mortals find this statement to be wrong?

  • Is not gravity, while expressed as a mathematical “law”, a force or a “curvation of the spacetime”?  wiki gravity
  • Isn’t gravity part of our universe?  Do we have any reason to think it exist outside of our universe?
    • Doesn’t the “law” Mr. Hawking refers to, require objects with mass, space (distance) and time (theory of relativity)?
    • Don’t modern physicists, including Hawking, agree that these are part of our universe and all of them, matter, space and time, began with the Big Bang?
  • Can the “law” of gravity create the universe, if it doesn’t exist without the universe?
  • If Mr. Hawking’s statement is correct, are these statements also correct?
    • “Because there is bologna, meat can and will create itself from nothing spontaneously.”
    • “Because there is Mickey Mouse, Disney Inc. can and will create itself from nothing spontaneously.”

In this instance, is the emperor Stephen Hawking, naked?

Having said that, I must say I wish gravity were an extra-universal “law”.  Don’t laws have law-givers and enforcers?  Think for yourself.  If we lived in a land with no governing bodies and no police at all, would speed limits exist or be enforced?  If gravity were a “law”, who made it a law and who enforces it?  Follow the truth, wherever it leads.

I could go on, and in another article I did, but if the greatest mind in the world today can be so obviously wrong, is any person beyond question? Am I? Most importantly, are you?

Trying To Explain Morality – A Discussion With Bob

11/05/201601/03/2024

Let’s discuss morality a little bit. Where does it come from? Morality discussion outline: Commitment Be open minded to the existence or non-existence of God. Be honest, especially with yourself. Be willing to say the Emperor is naked. Be logical, really. Don’t reject a logical conclusion because it is uncomfortable….

What A Difference Information Makes

04/25/201601/03/2024

Atheist Student: There’s not enough evidence to believe in God. Christian Speaker: What evidence would convince you? Atheist Student: If God suddenly wrote in the sky “Hey Roger, this is God. I’m here now stop whining and believe.” Christian Speaker: I would agree that would be convincing, and here’s why……

The Evidence For God, How Much Is Enough?

04/11/201601/03/2024

How much evidence would it take to convince you that God exist? Have you ever thought about it? For you personally, is there really any amount? I ask these questions for a reason.  I really do want you to define the answers to those questions. I’ve had these discussions long…
