Jesus Continues to Preach
42Early the next morning Jesus went out to an isolated place. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them. 43But he replied, “I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other towns, too, because that is why I was sent.” 44So he continued to travel around, preaching in synagogues throughout Judea.h
Jesus just had an extremely awesome day. The crowds came to him and he healed them all. He showed his authority by casting out demons. He had wowed them. So what does the next day bring?
Prayer alone, and then moving on with his mission.
It sounds simple but within Jesus simple act the next day is the key to being different, and effective, and Christian. Many of us, as a matter of fact most of us, we want to stay with out wins. Why move on? These people loved Jesus. He was the hit of the town. All was good. When things are going good for us doesn’t it seem like the smart decision is to “let the good times roll?” It could be, but then there is that different thing.
Jesus had a mission. He was here for a reason and he knew what that reason was. It wasn’t for his life to be easy or even for things to go well. No, that was not his mission. He didn’t let himself get sidetracked by something, even a very good something. He knew his mission and he kept to his mission. Which brings us to the Christian thing.
Jesus was sent. He says so, and so are we. As Christians we believe that our great God created the entire universe so that we might exist and come into a loving relationship with him and bring him glory. And not just that, but we believe God created us, uniquely and specifically to accomplish something within that glorious universe and mass of humanity that only we were created to do. We have a mission. We are sent. And all the universe is depending on us to do our part.
So let’s moving.
Lord, help me to believe that you have a special mission just for me. Reveal that mission to me and then give me the courage, through the strength of you Holy Spirit, to accomplish that mission.
You know, so let’s go! 🙂
