Crowds Follow Jesus
17When they came down from the mountain, the disciples stood with Jesus on a large, level area, surrounded by many of his followers and by the crowds. There were people from all over Judea and from Jerusalem and from as far north as the seacoasts of Tyre and Sidon. 18They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those troubled by evilb spirits were healed. 19Everyone tried to touch him, because healing power went out from him, and he healed everyone.
People came from everywhere to hear Jesus, to be touched by Jesus, to be healed by Jesus. The world was starving for Jesus and it still is. So if you are one of Jesus’ disciples following him down this mountain and you come across this scene, what are we to learn?
I think we need to learn the same thing his disciples learned. The world is hungry. Things haven’t changed all that much people still need Jesus. People still need healed. People still need set free from the grip of Satan.
So in today’s story who are you? Are you one of the crowd that needs to be set free, or are you a disciple there to help Jesus and learn, or are you Jesus? Our roles change all the time. We quite often see ourselves as the person who’s in need of healing or even a disciple, but how often are we called to be Jesus to the people in need and we aren’t?
So today let’s go out and be Jesus at least once to someone somewhere and maybe we’ll learn that we can be Jesus every hour of every day to almost everybody.
Lord give me the courage to be you to someone in need today. And when I am in need give me the courage to see you in those who cross my path.
Just look around you today and when your eyes are opened, my Holy Spirit will be there.
