All things concerning the Bible and Christianity

If I Were God: I would have made it impossible to think the New Testament was a lie.

Thomas Less, 05/28/201201/06/2017

The foundation of Christianity is the New Testament, yet it is so incredible that it is often accused of being a lie.  If I were God I would have made it impossible to think the New Testament was a lie.

To date I have received 2 worth opposing views as comments to my original post.  I have elevated them both to their own documents and cross-linked all of them

Atheist – How do you explain away the empty tomb and the four gospels.

Thomas Less, 04/23/2011

This is an email exchange between myself and a atheist that I consider a good friend.  I had been answering his questions in email form for some time.  He gave me the opportunity to reverse the process and ask him something and this is how it went.  It was an email exchange that I will try to put in the form of a post and comments.

I don’t understand how

Why would anyone be attracted to Christianity?

Thomas Less, 11/25/2010

If you are looking at which religion show the most increase in adherents, Christianity is the fastest growing religion in the world.  To ask why, is very reasonable.  It doesn’t really fit into my discussion here, but I like the answer so well I am posting it anyway.

I think the best answer for this was written by Dinesh d’Souza in a book call “What’s So Great About Christianity” and …

How can God justify punishing Adam and Eve for eating from the "Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil", when before they ate from it they didn't understand good and evil?

Thomas Less, 11/20/2010

This was a very interesting question I had never been presented with before, and at first I found it very perplexing.  But after consideration and prayer, it actually lead me to greater faith.

First, we need to clarify that someone can do wrong without necessarily understanding why what they did was wrong.  For example, if you tell a child not to throw stones, and they throw a stone, they have …

How can you take the Bible, or the Christian God seriously today? For example: The Bible says an adulteress woman should be stoned. You wouldn't do that today.

Thomas Less, 11/03/2010

Again, this question is really answered in the previous two posts,   and  , but I want to take the opportunity to explain something very important about the Bible.

When you take something from the Bible, you must take it from the context of the entire Bible, Old Testament and New Testament, and try to understand it from the perspective of the true author, which I believe is God, so he …

How can anyone take the Bible seriously when Evolution is obviously true and the Bible is so obviously false?

Thomas Less, 10/19/2010

I appreciate this question greatly because it strikes so personally close to me and my family.  I didn’t really want to tackle this here, but it is unavoidable.  There are many ways to answer this.  I admit I don’t know all the answers and I have chosen different beliefs at different times in my life.  I know it will be extremely difficult to keep this short, but I will try.…

Religion, especially Christianity, has caused so many wars and killed so many people. How can it be from a loving God?

Thomas Less, 10/12/2010

First , we need to examine the premise of your question.  I would argue that Christianity has caused almost no wars, and killed very few people.  Actually, this is relatively true of religions in general.  Wars are caused by the greed, for either wealth or power, of individuals and peoples.  Sometimes those individuals and peoples try to wrap their greed in the cloak of a religion to disguise it or …

How can God be just if he "chose" the Israelites to be his "chosen people"?

Thomas Less, 09/29/2010

In order to say God is unjust for choosing the Israelites, you would have to first answer the question: Chosen for what?  People who are unfamiliar with the Bible make the assumption the Israelites were chosen for preferential treatment, and that is not what the Bible says at all.  The  Bible clearly says that God chose the Israelites to be a “blessing to all the peoples of the world.”  Really, …

There are so many contradictions in the Bible it can't be inspired by an intelligent God.

Thomas Less, 09/24/2010

I’ve heard this statement so many times, but when pressed for examples, most people can’t come up with concrete contradictions at all, they come up with discrepancies.  The difference is that with a contradiction, it is impossible for both statements to be true.  With a discrepancy, the statements do not agree, but they could both be true.  An example would be in Matthew 20:30 two blind men sought Jesus, but …

Two of the gospels disagree on who Joseph's father was. How can that be if God is all-knowing?

Thomas Less, 09/23/2010

I have seen list of Bible contradictions, and for me, the hardest one to clarify is this one.  Most of the rest are simple discrepancies and not contradictions at all.  The difference is that with a contradiction, it is impossible for both statements to be true.  With a discrepancy, the statements do not agree, but they could both be true.  This turns out to be a discrepancy, because it is …
