Something you can't forget about

Beginner’s Online Bible Study 05: Becoming closer to God requires reading and studying the Bible, the Word of God.

Thomas Less, 12/08/201012/28/2016

Becoming closer to God requires reading and studying the Bible, the Word of God.  I know this is why we are here, but we don’t want to miss just how important this is.

Lets go back to our friend Alex who we would like to get to know better.  If Alex wrote a book or an article, wouldn’t you read it?  As a matter of fact, if you spent a lot of time and effort writing a book about yourself and your life, and you had a friend who didn’t read that book, wouldn’t you question whether that person was truly a friend or not?  Why do we treat God so different than we would treat any of our other close friends?

If Alex had 5 really good friends who decided to write a book about Alex, and you wanted to become a good friend of Alex’s, wouldn’t you read the book Alex’s friends wrote?  The Bible is full of stories about the lives of people and how their lives were inter-twined with God.  It was actually penned by about 40 people who spent their lives dedicated to serving and knowing God.  Why would we not try to learn from them instead of re-inventing the wheel?

Lastly, If you were an athlete in a game that would end in your life or death, wouldn’t you read the rule book?

I don’t think I’m overstating the situation here.  You are in a battle that will determine your eternal life and death.  Your only chance at eternal life is intimately knowing God.  God wrote a book to help you know Him, and know how to live for Him.  The book gives endless examples of living in faith, and living without faith – living with God, and living without God.  God literally killed his own son to make this book and the life that is within it possible.  If you killed your own child for someone, and wrote a book about that experience, wouldn’t you expect those who love you and love your son to read it?  Wouldn’t it break your heart if they didn’t?  Beginner’s Online Bible Study *obbs*

21At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. 22“All…

Luke 10: 17-20 Love is more powerful than power

05/15/201705/15/2017

17The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” 18He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm…

Luke 10: 8-16 We’re just the messengers

05/04/2017

8“If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. 9Heal the sick, and tell them, ‘The Kingdom of God is near you now.’ 10But if a town refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11‘We wipe even the dust of…

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is with you. He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with His love. He will rejoice over you with singing.” Reading this Scripture makes me stop in awe and ponder the fact that I am very special and loved greatly by my Father in Heaven. He will take great delight in you…and rejoice over me with singing… What a beautiful scene that brings to my mind and makes my heart swell with love and peace. To know that my life matters. That with God’s love and strength I can make a difference in someone’s life – to be God’s helper in this world. To share His great love with others….

It really makes you wonder how God can love us so much when we so often hurt him with our sins, and yet he continues to love us. He has given us everything and yet how often do we forget to thank him.
